Salad King
This restaurant is located just one street north of Dundas and east of Yonge. It is on the street right before Sam the Record Man. I have in the past received many among many good reviews about this place, in fact I did not receive one bad review about this place. So I had to try it. This place takes itself as a Thai Restaurant, so I could compare it against others.
So I don't know all the names of the things we ordered, but let me take my best guess.
Miniature Shrimp Rolls - this is an appetizer, and it was great. I liked this the most. There were about 10 small miniature shrimp rolls, and each one had a little shrimp inside with it's tail sticking out. This dish is fried, but was still tasty. I really liked it because of it's unique presentation, and the taste and flavour was still inside and the flavour of "deep fry" did not take over it. For $3.50, it was worth the price
Cold Rolls - This came and I was impressed by the presentation. It looked like one long roll, not fried. Inside had carrots, cucumber, sprouts, and mango. I was impressed by the presentation because came in this bowl, and all the ends were facing up, looked so nice. But the taste was different. There was hardly any taste othr than the sprouts and the carrots. I could no t taste the mango at all. a little bit disappointed with it. Points for presentation, but not much for taste. At $3.25, was ok, but would not order again don't think.
Rainbow Chicken - This was on the 'daily special' today, but was on menu. Only difference was it came with a drink. Basically this is a dish, that has some mild sauce with peppers, eggplant, and with steam rice. I think this dish was okay, but the problem was that it was not great. I did not leave me with impression was so good, and the presentation was nothign special either, just placed on the dish. The chicken was white chicken breast, and was not tender. I'm not picky about my chicken, but some are. But the chicken did not have the flavour either, which would've been a bonus.
Some other Chicken rice dish - I wish I remembered name, but doesn't matter, nothign good here anyways. Was so simple, pepppers, onions, in this "Mild Thai Sauce" is what the menu said, onyl one there that says that. So look for it. Again the chicken was not tender, th sauce was not hot at all. But I was a bit afraid the '3 chili' sauce would be too hard to take so I went down to '1 chili', man, I should of went for at least 3. Because this was not hot at all. I needed more flavour, the sauce was unspectacular and like the Rainbow chicken, the sauce did not go into the chicken like it should.
All in all, th environment was interesting. It's casual enough to sit and chat, and have a good time, but formal enough to sit at a table, have some bit of privacy. The decor was nice, like the table were designed so it can seat big parties, or many small parties.
So overall, I'd rate it worse than Spring Rolls, so I'd give it only a 2.75/5.0 because I really was not impressed too much, but I'll give it another chance.
