Eggspectation - website
This restaurant hails from Montreal. It's main focus is on eggs, thus breakfast. However they have a splendid assorrtment of other entrees as well for more meals. This is located on Yonge street outside of the Eaton Centre. So that means between Queen and Dundas on the west side of Yonge is the restaurant.
Service - I did not really like their service. First we go in and we ask how long is the wait, they say, 1 hour. So we go get a coffee, come back within 15 mins, and then they call our names. The reason for this is because when people hear 1 hour, they leave. Thus people get crossed off their lists fast, and therefore the shorter wait. I guess it isn't their fault, given their expected wait time is only accroding to their list, and they can't account for people elaving because then they won't. But further to that was the waiter. He was never there when we wanted him. Took forever to bring things for us, like the bill, the change, etc etc. He even looked at us before he took out bill, and then left without taking it. I was upset with that. Anyways, so did not like it at all. Even worse, when we were waiting, or even sitting, we see tons of extra empty seats and tables, but tons of people waiting. What gives, I am not sure they can seat people fast enough, maybe they really should, the more people will stay becase more space at entrance.0.4/1.0
Environment - Their entrance is not big enough, don't know what they can do, but they should expand it. They have a lot of customers waiting so they need the extra space. I never did like having washrooms not on the main level. This was you have to go downstairs, but what was more confusing was when you go down, you have to either turn left or right. Only if you look right will you know where to go. Because coming down there are no signs in front of you. In general, I am not a big fan of sittingg by the windows so everyone passing on the street can see you, but of course they have other tables, we just sat at one by the windows. But I don't hold it against them. Other than that, I think it was okay to some extent, nothing amazing. This is not a restaurant for ambience, btu then its breakfast food, what do you want, candle-light eggs? 0.6/1.0
Food
California Benedict - $11.99 - This plate had potatoes, smoked salmon, arparagus, onions, cheese, two poached eggs. It was simply amazing. But then how can you go wrong with smoked salmon. At first I was eating, and it was this big mountain in the middle, I liked it, had some potatoes, eggs, bread, asparagus. I completely forgot about the smoked salmon, whcih was buried inside the mountain. I liked it already, but I guess for value thinking back was not worth, but then when I found the smoked salmon, I was like whoa, things changed now. So, I liked the eggs, smoked salmon was plentiful, I love potatoes, nicely cooked, and the asparagus and cooked onions were a nice different taste to an already tasteful meal.
Dessert Eggs Omelette - $7.99 - This was an interesting choice. It has maple roasted potatoes, eggs omelette with cheese. It was a very sweet plate. The best part was those potatoes, which had this maple on it, that made them so sweet, but so tasty. I really liked this as well. Not the best meal, but a good compliment.
Overall - This was a good meal because of the different type of meal. I love eggs, I was not a fan of the wait but it was worth it, given we did not have to wait for a long time either.
Second time I went, wasn't as thrilled with the food. I think I had the same meal as above, the Benedict, and it really did not do it for me. So perhaps with time the quality has gone down. 0.6/1.0
Presentation - The entrees were nicely presented. They had a nice mixture of different decorations on the plate. The e presentation of the dessert was a minus though, I saw nothing nice, something anybody could do, pour mousse in a cup.0.6/1.0
Price - Actually the ordering menu is reasonable, somewhere above $10 I believe from what I remember. the buffet I think is a deal, from what I saw. I think it's like $18.95 for dinner on Fri-SUN and minus $2 for other. I thought it was cheaper actually. Anyways, I would say it's fair, because of how full you really come out of it.
To be fair, this is expensive food. So I have to drop this in order to be more in line with value. 0.5/1.0
Overall - It is hard to compare it against other restaurants because there is not much else like it. But I would say in general I liked it. I would go back because it's a good meal. Just a little expensive. The wait time is a bit longer than I like for this meal. And I do not like how their expected time does not correspond to the actual. Seems like a fun place, good place for all kinds of people and groups to go to, just prob not big groups. I would say this rating is the same as Sage, but I would still rather go here than to Sage, but then it is a different meal too.2.7/5.0
